Well I've finally calmed down enough from the loss to write my usual post game recap. If one could describe the game in one word then it would most defiantly be... SHOCKING!
UK overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half and led 75-73 when Jodie Meeks stepped to the line for two free throws with 5.1 seconds left. He swished the first and was setting up for the second when Sheray Thomas backed out of the lane a split-second after the official flipped the ball to the shooter. The refs awarded the Dawg's posession and Jamont Gordon hit a absolutely ridiculous buzzer-beater 3 to send the game into OT.
In the final minute of OT, Meeks missed a open lay-up after he got loose under the basket that would seal the deal for the Cats. Instead MSU threw the ball down the court on the fast break and got a lay-up to seal the deal for the Dawg's. MSU defeated the Cats 84-82.
Morris had the game of his life. He finished with 29 points 15 rebounds 3 blocks and 2 steals! He played his heart out and it showed. He should have gotten the ball more in OT because he had the hot hand. When someone is having to game of his life and has the hot hand then you need to ride him and get him the ball and let him make things happen for you. Tell that to Joe Crawford!!! Good job Morris and please continue to do it in the Big Dance!
Crawford had a pretty good scoring performance as well. He finished with 20 points. But the downside is that he was 8-21 from the field! He took it upon himself to win the game for us and look what happened! He needs to stop being so selfish and give the ball up some. Granted he had some good drives and buckets but when nothing is there you need to give it up instead of getting your shot blocked, or throwing up a brick!
Meeks had another good game as well. He finished with 14 points 8 rebounds 3 assists and 6 steals! He is by far the most competitive player on the team and give the most effort every trip up and down the court! He will for sure be a great one here in the blue and white!
What I don't understand though is Tubby's coaching yesterday! Why would you not foul before the buzzer beater 3 to end regulation? Also, Bradley only had 4 fouls... So whjy did he leave Thomas in there and leave Bradley on the bench late in OT and regulation when the game is on the line? I have said it over and over... Thomas has no buisness on the court when the game is on the line! I will say this about him though... That Lane Violation WAS NOT his fault! He was just doing exactly what Tubby was was telling him to do, so if it is anyones fault it is the Tubbster's!
Like I said before... I am so freakin pissed about the game yet I am so shocked! I never would have thought the way that game would have ended like it did. We made a great comeback but we could not capitalize on the golden opportunities to put the game in our hands! If we want to make a deep run in the Big Dance then we will have to start to capitalize on the opportunities that we got and run with them... If we don't then it is going to be another early exit!
Go Cats!!!
