UK will truly be a Senior-dominated Football Team

It's been a long time since we could say this, but UK's 2007 football team will be dominated from the top-down....by seniors. I think this bodes well for this team's performance in key games.

The team's four best football players (Woodson, Little, Burton, Woodyard) are seniors. Throw in senior TE Jacob Tamme, a returning all-conference performer who has become the spiritual leader of UK's offensive unit now that Matt McCutchan has graduated. And throw in senior S Roger Williams, who is the leader of UK's defensive secondary.

Obviously, there is plenty of young talent on hand, especially on the defensive unit. Star DT Myron Pryor is a junior, as is starting MLB Braxton Kelley. Star CB Trevard Lindley and blossoming DE Jeremy Jarmon are sophs. So is athletic LB Sam Maxwell. Heralded DT Ricky Lumpkin and DE Josh Minton are redshirt freshmen. In fact, Woodyard, Williams, and possibly Dominick Lewis (if he beats out Nii Adjei Oninku at DE) could be the only starting seniors on Steve Brown's defensive unit next fall.

The offensive unit has more key seniors than the defense. But most of UK's projected starting offensive linemen are underclassmen. Starting WR Rich Lyons is a junior. Alfonzo Smith, John Connor, and Maurice Grinter are sophs. High profile WR prospect Kyrus Lanxter will be a true freshman.

After years of playing with a short roster, Coach Brooks has finally put a complete team on the field. This has been a long time in the making, and it will be interesting to watch what happens when UK is no longer the youngest squad on the field. Maybe this will help the Cats win more of those "games we aren't supposed to win".
