OK here is what I have been hearing the last last couple days on the recruiting front. Billy G. is looking at a couple or 6 prospects to bring in to join his 07 class at UK. They are in no order(the chosen 2 that has strung UK along forever)Patterson and Lucas. Also the new guys that have came forward in the last couple of days. Hobson a 6-7 SF, Legion a 6-4 2G, Sanchez a 6-8 PF, and a couple of JUCO PF/C that I don't know to much about(ones name is Bronson 6-9 250 PF).But don't forget Pettigrew,but in a couple weeks I believe all UK fans will forget about this kid because of the recruits Billy G. brings in.So lets look at them a little closer.
So for the big 2 Lucas and Patterson. We already know about all we need or care to know with these 2. Patrick Patterson is a top 15 6-8 235(which I think top 15 is a little high for him) Mickey's D All-American from West Virginia. Lucas is a top 45 5-10 145 Mickey's D All-American. These 2 kids want to play together and I don't see them going to different schools. Lucas has been favoring UK for a while and PP pulling for UF. I still don't think they know exactly were they will end up together, yes together. This weekend while they are at the Jordan Classic I believe they will set down together a decide whats both for both. I feel that UK hiring coach "SIP" was a good move in trying to get Lucas to commit, but was it enough. I just get the feeling that the recruitment of both men are in the hands and decision of PP. I believe were ever he decided to play Lucas will follow.So as of now I think that its about 80/20 for UF.
Now for Hobson. I have been really high on the kid for the last couple years. I have saw him play a couple times and really love the kids game. He can do it all. His shot is almost perfect in form, he handles the ball well for a 6-7 220 or so PF. UK recruited him earlier and I said at that time that he is the one recruit I would love to see UK pull in. At the time he committed to Wyoming than decommitted and committed to Pepperdine. But now that his favorite assistant left and went to New Mexico with Alford he has reopened his recruitment. He has said that UK and UNM are his 2 top schools now. A visit is set for next week and a offer is already out there. But the only thing I worry about is if the visit will be a week to late. I say this because UK has another recruit coming in tomorrow for a visit and I have a sneaking feeling that that first to except between the 2 Hobson and Legion(if they do accept)will get the third ride.
So lets look at this Legion kid shall we. He is a top 30 talent that can shoot the lights out of the ball(over 40% from 3 land). He is 6-4 and 210.He was originally committed to Michigan last summer than decommitted. About a month or so later he recommitted to UM. Now that UM has changed head coaches Legion has reopened things up again. His mom has said that the top 3 are UK, KU,and MU. He will be on campus at UK tomorrow and stay to Saturday. I have heard that he is very high on Billy G. and UK. He is wanting to make a decision by next week and I feel with him being at UK this weekend it will bold well for UK. I have head that if things go well, as well as the talk he and BIlly G. has had already he will commit this weekend. If something happens and he gets of campus without committing I believe he goes back to UM(his mom really wants him to attend UM).
Sanchez is a kid that just jumped up out of nowhere and surprised a lot of people when he got his offer. He is a kid that has a lot of talent no doubt. He is a big bodied, physcial kid. Sanchez will be a load no matter were he ends up and help a team out his freshman year. This is a kid that was ranked in the top 50 ahead of Patterson and Lucas before he had some knee injuries and had to sit out 6 months last summer. This kid is still a top 100 talent, but if he was healthy all summer he would have been in the top 50 for sure. Now for a little something some of you guys may find a little strange.I personally would rather have Sanchez rather than PP if I could be 100% sure he would stay healthy. Yes he is that talented. If Sanchez does commit to a school for 07 it will be for UK.
Now for the Pettigrew news.Well there isn't really any news here besides the fact that I have been told that Pettigrew will not receive a offer unless all of Billy Gs. main targets turn him down. Which I can say with almost 100% confidence will not happen.
I have also been told there are some JUCO's in the mix. The only named that I have heard UK has contacted for sure is the Bronson kid. I don't know much about him but I do know he is a beast down low 6-8 or 9 and about 245 250 lbs. I was told that he has a good post up game and is a beast on the boards, if he gets his hands on it, its not getting loose. Also there is another JUCO PF, but I wasn't gave a name just that there are 2 JUCO's in the mix.
Now for a last bit of info I have been told that I will pass along to you guys. There is a mystery recruit in the fold. Its a kid thats trying to get out of his LOI at this moment. If I had a name I would give it to you but I also wasn't gave name. But you can bet your bottom dollar that there is a mystery recruit out there. Now will this recruit end up at UK, its hard to tell at this time. First he needs to get out of his LOI then he need to sign with UK. So I say its probably only 10% chance at best that we end up actually hearing about who the mystery recruit truly is or was.
Now for my predictions on who I think will commit and sign with UK in 07. I will say that Billy G's first 07 signee will be Legion from Michigan. From what I have heard he is really interested by UK and Billy G. Next I will say that Sanchez will sign as well. I know this means more than likely no PP or Lucas and ya know what I'm alright with that. Third I will say that Billy G brings in a JUCO. Whether it be the Bronson kid or someone else I believe he wants a exprienced PF to step in and play next season.
My guess at who UK's 07 class will be:
- Williams 7 250 C
- Stewart 6-8 215 PF
- Sanchez 6-8 225 or so PF
- Legion 6-4 2G
- JUCO PF
Not a great class, but a decent one for sure, 1 top 35 player(Legion), 2 top 80 player(Stewart and Sanchez) another top 100 player(Williams)and more than likely an top 15 JUCO player. So I would say that would be good enough for a top 20 and maybe 15 class. I know I said that I would really like to have Hobson and he was really high on UK, this is true. But if you can remember I also said the first to commit between he and Legion got that 1 ride and I believe Legion commits first but I could be wrong.
